“At present, we are actively enabling the PAPILLON automated fingerprint identification system to solve crimes. It makes possible to work with latent prints left at crime scenes.
To date, its total array contains 71 million of tenprint card records and latent prints lifted at the scenes of unsolved crimes. As a result, more than 152 thousand persons who used forged identity papers were detected throughout Russia over the last year only. About 11 thousand of the unknown dead were identified. Identity checks performed with
the help of the PAPILLON system allowed us to solve more than 1 thousand murders, more than 2 thousand robberies and armed assaults, about 15 thousand thefts”.
