PAPILLON ZIRKON Minimal Configuration |
The PAPILLON ZIRKON system is based on biometric method of personal identification by iris.

Iris Scanning
|
Personal identification by iris represents one of the most accurate and reliable methods of biometric identification. Probability of false recognition - FAR (False Accept Rate) and FRR (False Reject Rate) - for this method is practically equal to zero.
One of the advantages distinguishing this authentication technology is its "non-aggressiveness" to a person verified, inasmuch as there is no direct contact with the equipment – the iris image is captured when an individual is just looking into the camera.
The scanner analyses the quality of eye imaging, determines the pupil center, the iris center and its margins. After that, the image is captured, the action being accompanied by a shutter sound, and then encoded and verified against the database.

System Capabilities
- Enrollment and digital encoding of the iris pattern
- Creation and storage of records in the electronic database; each record contains a coded iris image, textual data and photos of a registrant
- Comparison of the iris pattern code to those stored in the database in 1-to-n mode
- Comparison of the iris pattern code to those stored in the database in 1-to-1 mode
- Database maintenance: sampling, list sorting, deletion and editing of records, etc.

PAPILLON ZIRKON Integration into Access Control Systems
|

The PAPILLON ZIRKON Matcher
|
The PAPILLON ZIRKON design provides problem-free integration within automated access control systems (ASC). For this purpose, a feature-rich PAPILLON-iScan SDK Compare library is provided together with the ZIRKON access unit.
The ZIRKON access unit includes:
- PAPILLON iScan-3 Iris Scanner for iris image acquisition and its transfer to the matcher
- a special-purpose matcher for processing, comparison and storage of the biometric data received from the iris scanner or from external database.
The functions provided by the PAPILLON SDK-iScan Compare library enable easy integration of ZIRKON into a new or existing access control applications.
The central server of the access control system undertakes the functions of a file server. The matcher interacts with the central server through local Ethernet, and gives commands to access actuators through the RS-232 (RS-485) interface port.
Each access unit supports the iris image capture in both enrollment and verification (comparison with the test pattern 1-to-1) or identification (1-to-n) modes. For operating in a verification mode, the access unit is fitted with a built-in ID-card reader.
Each access unit maintains its internal biometric database, thereby providing customizability of the system and time saving.
It is advisable to assign the enrollment function to one or several access units, making the rest perform identification / verification only.
The system expandability is provided just by adding new ZIRKON access units and connecting them to the central server through any TCP/IP communications available.
The system of this kind is now successfully running at one of the enterprises in Chelyabinsk region.

PAPILLON iScan-3 Iris Scanner
The iScan-3 features an auto-focus function. Infrared illumination used in the iris scanner is harmless to human eyesight.
The scanner is capable of swiveling up and down according to the height of a particular person.
The system uses only black-and-white images so that any iris color change, following some diseases, does not influence the result of identification.
