PAPILLON DPP Compact Mobile Devices for In-the-Field Identity Checks

Operation Methodology
Technical Specifications
Range of Application

PAPILLON DPP series are compact handheld devices with fingerprint scanners embedded, especially designed for the growing needs in in-the-field identity checks through enquiries to the AFIS databases using subjects’ touch fingerprints. (See also PAPILLON FILTER).

The family of PAPILLON DPP includes:

  • PAPILLON DPP-3 Cellphone-based Handheld Terminal (BRAND-NEW!)
  • PAPILLON DPP-2 Palmtop-based Handheld Terminal
  • PAPILLON DPP-1 Palmtop-based Portable Station (housed in a case)

On top

PAPILLON DPP devices provides:
  • remote access to AFIS resources from anywhere and at any time
  • fast and accurate fingerprint acquisition
  • immediate compression of captured images and data transmission to an AFIS for searches
  • automatic reception and display of search results
  • ability to verify the identity of subjects concurrently against several AFIS databases
  • autonomous power supply
  • wireless connection to an AFIS

PAPILLON DPP is configured for wireless connectivity with AFIS through GSM/GPRS/EDGE.
To operate with the terminals, no special skills in using computers or fingerprint scanners and no special knowledge in fingerprint analysis is required. The entire operation takes only a few minutes.

Operation Methodology: How It Works

Step 1. Direct scanning of any two flat fingerprints
Step 2. Automatic image compression and transmission to PAPILLON AFIS via GSM/GPRS/EDGE communication channels
Step 3. Automatic search of the tenprint database and transfer of search results to the requestor
Step 4. Reception and display of search results on the screen: demographic data and photos available in all identified as Hits tenprints; if no matching tenprints in the database, a No Hit message appears.

PAPILLON DPP-1 enables users to attach:

  • a digital camera (Bluetooth) providing problem-free compatibility with facial recognition systems
  • an RFID-card reader (USB) allowing easy integration into biometric enrollment and ID card control applications.

PAPILLON DPP-2 has an embedded RFID-card reader for operating with identity cards carrying encoded microchips.

In off mode, i.e. between identity check sessions, PAPILLON DPP-3 can be used as an ordinary cell phone.

Range of Application

  • Field investigation
  • Highway patrol and inspection
  • Transportation security and border control (identity checks of suspects at airports, railway stations, river and sea ports, in subways)
  • Safeguarding at public events
  • Protection of extra-hazardous facilities and zones of increased danger (gas and oil pipelines, electric power stations, plants, water-storage reservoirs, etc.)
  • Migration service
  • Physical access control (in combination with stationary checkpoint terminals)
  • Movement monitoring: identity checks of remands and inmates in penitentiaries
