Conceptual framework of the system is as follows: Central AFIS (CAFIS) + network of remote sites integrating with the CAFIS.
Server functions in the CAFIS are performed by multiple subsystems: database server, matching subsystem, data storage subsystem, communications subsystem.

The system configuration is defined by customer specifications for a system to be designed, in particular:

• Data throughput
• Number of workstations at the Central AFIS site
