Hyderabad: The Task Force police apprehended two juveniles for indulging in house breakings during night hours. The cases registered about two and four years back, were cracked using PAPILLON AFIS automated Fingerprint and Palmprint Identification System, which was recently adopted by the City police.

According to police, the boys held were juveniles aged 16 years (case registered in Rein Bazar police station, 2013) and 17 years (case registered in Santosh Nagar police station, 2016) at the time of offence, were caught using the PAPILLON technology. “The finger prints of juveniles matched with the finger prints collected from the scene using the above software. These two juveniles at the time of their earlier arrest in other cases did not disclose these crimes,” said S Chaitanya Kumar, Additional DCP, Task Force.

The official said that even though both the accused were involved in other cases earlier, they never confessed to have committed the crimes registered in 2013 and 2016. “The apprehended boys along with recovered property, 7.5 tolas of gold jewellery and other items were handed over to the Rein Bazar and Santosh Nagar police stations respectively, for taking further action against them,” added the official.

Former DGP Anurag Sharma launched the PAPILLON AFIS technology for the entire State in October after it was availed by other departments like CID in the beginning of the year, 2017. This technology captures the fingerprints of suspects and helps in comparing the registered prints from the database and provides results in less than a minute.
